Archaeology in Australia

Anna Florin will give an overview of archaeology in Australia. The discussion includes a general introduction to what types of finds are the most common in Australia, the biggest and most active sites in Australia and Australian innovations and touches on how we as Australians contribute to archaeology on the world stage.

About the speaker: Anna Florin is a Doctor of Philosophy Candidate at The University of Queensland in the field of Archaeology. Ms Florin’s research interests include Australian archaeology, tropical archaeobotany, ethnobotany, and hominin evolution and dispersal. Ms Florin’s doctoral study is focused on analysing past food plant remains from Madjedbebe rock shelter (Mirarr Country, northern Australia), the oldest known archaeological site in Australia and New Guinea. Prior to this, Ms Florin was awarded a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Queensland before going on to be awarded a Class 1 Honours in Archaeology, and is an Australian Archaeology Association representative.
