Dr Kevin Rains will explore archaeology on Cross River Rail, including an overview of why archaeology is important on mega-infrastructure projects, how artefacts are found, what happens when there is a find, some of the most notable finds to date, and what we could expect to find on the Cross River Rail project in the future.
About the speaker: Dr Kevin Rains is a Historical Archaeologist and Heritage Manager for Niche Environment and Heritage, and is an expert in managing early mining and agricultural landscapes, cemeteries, the built environment of the late 19th century to post-war period, and overseas Chinese settlement in colonial Queensland. Dr Rains holds a Bachelor of Arts (Archaeology) before continuing to earn his Honours at The University of Queensland. Dr. Rains was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy (Historical Archaeology from The University of Queensland. His thesis explored the early Chinese community of Cooktown and the Palmer River Gold field during the 19th and 20th century.
