Aviation archaeology involves the study and investigation of the material remains associated with human flight. As part of National Archaeology Week, aviation archaeologist and PhD candidate at the University of New England, Daniel J Leahy, will present an overview of aviation archaeology in Australia by discussing two recent studies.
The investigation of the wreck of an American Brewster Buffalo aircraft that crashed in north east Victoria during July 1942.
Examination of airfields used by schools of the Empire Air Training Scheme and similar training facilities for British Commonwealth air force personnel around the world.
The presentation will briefly cover the historical research, questions raised, archaeological fieldwork, and results associated with both projects.
Presented by the Aviation Historical Society of Australia (Qld) Inc.
