Join Australian Centre for Egyptology scholars, along with educators and museum specialists from the Macquarie University Department of History and Archaeology, for this special event for high school history teachers, with a focus on Ancient Egypt and museum-based learning.
Macquarie Egyptologists will give two short lectures on curriculum-linked topics, reflecting their latest research: Dr Ellen Ryan on the 18th Dynasty; and PhD candidate Pauline Stanton on Hatshepsut's Obelisks at Karnak.
You will have the opportunity to get hands-on with history in an artefact-handling session led by Macquarie archaeologists and educators, either before or after the lectures. Using objects from the collection of the Macquarie University History Museum, these sessions will give you a taste of our Object-Based Learning programs (as offered in Macquarie’s undergraduate History & Archaeology units and in our school engagement program, known as Studying the Past). You can also visit the Museum — home to one of Australia’s most intriguing collections of Ancient Egyptian artefacts and the southern hemisphere’s largest collection of papyri.
Kindly note that this is a ticketed event at $20, and bookings are limited to one Artefact Handling Session per person. We highly recommend reserving your spot now to avoid disappointment. Additionally, the Museum will remain open until 8:30 pm for visitors to explore the collections at their leisure. No bookings are necessary for visiting the Museum during regular hours.
