Who Owns the Past? Cultural Heritage and the Law in Western Australia

  • Leopold Hotel 326-334 Canning Highway Bicton WA 6157 Australia (map)

Presented by Sven Ouzman (University of Western Australia)

WA has some of Australia’s best heritage – and worst legal protections, especially for Aboriginal heritage. This talk covers the destruction of Juukan Gorge; the confusion of juggling three State heritage laws, and acknowledges Aboriginal ‘First Law’, in order to map a pathway to prosperity, truth-telling, and a more inclusive national identity.

This event is part of the Pint of Science Australia Festival.

The venue is wheelchair accessible.

When: 7-9.30pm AWST, Wednesday 15 May 2024
