Jill Reid
Current position
Principal Heritage Consultant; Queensland Team Leader
Where did you study?
University of Queensland
How did you become interested in archaeology?
Took Ancient History in high school.
What archaeological projects are you working on at the moment?
I'm currently working on a variety of renewable, transport and mining projects.
Tell us about one of your most interesting archaeological discoveries
For me archaeology is about the people you meet rather than the things that you find. I recently recorded a contact site as part of a shell midden and artefact scatter which was cool, but the best part was talking about it with the young heritage rangers that I was doing the survey with.
Tell us about a funny / disastrous / amazing experience that you have had while doing archaeology
My most amazing archaeology experience has been working on burial cemeteries with Elders. Learning from them and working through complex issues is always a humbling experience and one I wouldn't give up for anything.
What’s your favourite part of being an archaeologist?
It used to be about being the first person to see that site or object since it was deposited sometimes thousands of years ago. Now it is about meeting and working with Traditional Custodians and being an ally on our reconciliation journey.
