Lily Bails
Current position
Archaeologist and Intern for UNESCO in Uzbekistan
Where did you study?
Flinders University and University of Heidelberg, Germany
How did you become interested in archaeology?
I’ve always been interested in the more psychological/semantic side of history - how humans in the past conveyed and portrayed themselves, their beliefs etc especially through petroglyphs and art
What archaeological projects are you working on at the moment?
I’m currently in rural Uzbekistan working on a site funded by UNESCO and TIKA called Shahruhiye, a prevalent Timurid period city two hours south of Tashkent.
What’s your favourite part of being an archaeologist?
Connecting with people past and present, and getting to understand how they thought, felt, and loved just as we do now.
