Braiding Indigenous Knowledges and Science

Presented in partnership with the Center for Braiding Indigenous Knowledges and Science.

The braiding of Indigenous knowledge and Western science fosters a deeper and more holistic understanding of the past through multiple lenses. This panel will focus on the new Center for Braiding Indigenous Knowledge and Science, funded by the National Science Foundation in the USA. It will outline current projects being undertaken under the auspices of the new centre with First Nations colleagues in the USA, and suggest additional lines of research that would build on Australian strengths in archaeology and other disciplines. Kellie Pollard and Claire Smith are the co-Directors of the Australian hub of the new centre, and will facilitate this panel discussion with Caroline Spry.

Panellists:

  • Kellie Pollard (Wiradjuri Archaeologist and ARC DAATSIA Research Fellow, Charles Darwin University)

  • Claire Smith (Professor of Archaeology, Flinders University; Elected Fellow, Australian Academy of Humanities; President 2003-2014, World Archaeological Congress)
