Current position

Senior Archaeologist - Umwelt

Where did you study?

University of Sydney

How did you become interested in archaeology?

I blame my brother for leaving his Cairo Jim books laying around when I was a kid.

What archaeological projects are you working on at the moment?

A large number of renewable energy projects in the NSW Central West.

Tell us about one of your most interesting archaeological discoveries

Locating a previously unrecorded wall of petroglyphs on the Burrup Peninsula purely by chance. If it were any other time of day the light would not have hit that surface at the right angle and it would have appeared blank...but not that day.

Tell us about a funny / disastrous / amazing experience that you have had while doing archaeology

Excavating in the vicinity of active piling works and needing to quickly evacuate the pit as what could only be described as bright pink ooze filled it. I had dog skeleton fall out of a sea wall into my lap. Almost got done in by a water buffalo in the NT.

What’s your favourite part of being an archaeologist?

Getting out into the bush and away from Sydney.
