Presented by Artefact Heritage and Environment.
As our city develops, more stories about our past emerge from the dust and rubble of its former dwellings and streetscapes. Join Anita Yousif of Artefact Heritage on a walking tour to hear stories of nineteenth century past lives within the ever-changing urban landscape; the archaeological and historical investigations that revealed them; and how much of the material evidence remains now and in what form.
Discover six former archaeological sites along Castlereagh and George Streets in the Sydney CBD and delve into their formation, dwellers and the activities carried out there, as well as the curiosities of archaeological excavations. Some remain hidden beneath current buildings, some are captured in interpretive elements and some are under construction.
Celebrate National Archaeology Week on this walking tour that will encompass a stretch of approximately 1.5km and will take 2.5 hours.
Meeting point: northeast corner of Castlereagh and Bathurst Streets, opposite Porter House.
When: 10am to 12.30pm, Saturday 24 May 2025
Where: Meeting on the north-east corner of Castlereagh and Bathurst Streets, Sydney NSW
